Schools can use Math Skill Builders: Whole Number Arithmetic to help learners of all ages learn the basic arithmetic skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers in the following types of classrooms:

  • Enhanced / Gifted Programs:
Young learners can begin to learn basic arithmetic skills. Animated demonstrations with "manipulatives" are provided by the talking Tutor at the beginning levels of addition and subtraction. Younger students in gifted programs will find problem solving a challenging activity. Students who have acquired basic arithmetic skills can be challenged to solve problems with greater speed and accuracy by setting time limits for Practice.
  • Core curriculum:
Math Skill Builders: Whole Number Arithmetic complements the math curriculum and regular textbook instruction in grades 2-6. See how the objectives in Math Skill Builders align with state standards. Use this program to:
    • Provide drill and practice of basic skills for students who need more repetition, leaving the classroom teacher free to conduct other math learning activities.
    • Make homework assignments, quickly and easily, that can be graded by the student.
    • Show students how to solve arithmetic problems. The talking tutor carefully explains stepped out solutions to arithmetic problems at different skill levels, so the teacher spends less time explaining how to solve arithmetic problems.
  • Remedial:
Here is finally a program that does not insult or patronize middle school or high school students who need review or remedial arithmetic instruction. Older learners, including adults, can focus on learning content without the extra distractions provided by many games or "edutainment" programs. Diagnosis can be used to identify individual students strengths and weaknesses. Use this program in special education programs.

Math Skill Builders: Whole Number Arithmetic provides tools to help schools meet accountability requirements:

  • Keep records for multiple students. The program can be customized to meet individual learning needs and each student can be working on different skills. Records are kept for all students showing their current skill and a history of their progress.
  • Use progress reports to track student achievement. Teachers can view reports of progress at any time to see the dates, scores, and times of any student's most recent diagnostics, practices, and assignments.
  • Communicate student achievement with parents using the printable progress reports, daily status reports, and certificates of achievement. Progress Reports can be printed in data or graph form to keep a history to share with parents.
