The class status view shows the status of every student, every skill level, in the operations and problem types you choose. To look at the class status view at any time, choose Class Status from the View menu, (or click the Class icon on the tool bar). Each class status view is color-coded so that it is easy to see the level at which each student is working. You can define the rules for competence level and frustration level as displayed in these views (See "Defining Criteria for Data Analysis"). To show or hide the legend that explains the color-coding, choose View, then check Show Legend, uncheck to hide the legend.

You can choose the operations and problem types to show in the Class Status view. This view can be set to show the status of all students:

  • In all operations, all types of problems (whole number, decimal, fraction)
  • In all operations, one type of problem
  • One operation, of the selected type of problem

Show class status in all operations, all problem types

Each time you open Class Manager, the Class Status view opens showing all operations for all problem types (whole numbers, decimals and fractions). This is the default view for class status.

To view the class status for all operations, all problem types choose Class Status on the View menu, choose All Problem Types, choose All Operations. (Or, click the class icon on the Tool Bar; click the all problem types icon, and all operations icon).

Class Status- All Operations- All Problem Types

When viewing all problem types and all operations, the class status shows the status of each student. Colored rectangles represent student status as follows:

Yellow: The student has had some activity in that operation in that problem type.
Green: The student has completed all skill levels in that operation for that problem.
Grey: The student has not completed any activities at any level in that operation

When the class status view is showing all operations, all problem types you can:

  • Show the class status view with just that problem type.

Click the type of problem (e.g. Whole number) or select the type of problem from the View menu, or Tool Bar.

  • Show a student's worksheet history in one problem type.

Click a colored square to show a chart of the student's history in the operation in the problem type chosen.

  • Show a student's complete worksheet history.

Click a student name to show a chart of the student history of any activity in all the operations in all the problem types.

To return to the Class Status view, from these other views, click the left arrow (go back) button on the tool bar, or select Previous View from the View menu.

Show class status in all operations, one problem type

To view the class status for all operations, in one problem type, do one of the following:

  • On the View menu choose class status, choose one problem type (i.e. whole number, decimal, fraction), choose All Operations.

Class Status- All Operations- One Problem Type

When viewed by problem type, the Class Status view shows details for each skill level. Colored rectangles indicate the following:

Dark green: The student demonstrated competence at this skill level

Light green: The student may be competent at this skill level

Yellow: The student needs practice at this skill level

Light red: The student may need direct instruction at this skill level

Dark red: The student needs direct instruction at this skill level

In addition to a color, a square may also contain an exclamation mark that indicates the program's recommended level for direct instruction and student practice for that operation. The recommended level is one level higher than the highest level at which a student has shown competence. (See "Defining Criteria for Data Analysis" for how to determine recommendations according to competence and frustration.)

When the class status view is showing all operations, one problem type you can:

Show the class status for just that one operation in the selected problem type.
Click the operation name or choose the operation from the View menu.

Show a student's worksheet history.

Click a student name to see a chart showing the student's level of competence in all the operations in the problem type chosen.
