What do all the colors mean?
As you check worksheets with class manager, the program records all the data to help you make decisions about how to best facilitate students learning with successful progress through all the skills necessary to master basic arithmetic. Each view of the data is color coded to represent different information. For example, in some views the colors indicate if there has been any activity, while in other views the colors represent the recommendations for types of activity at different skill levels. A more detailed description of the color-coding is available in each section explaining the views that are color-coded. See Class Status, Class Profile, Student History, and Student Progress. Any page that has colored graphics also has the option of showing or hiding the legend that explains the meaning of the colors. On any view, choose Show or Hide Legend on the View menu. How does the program make suggestions about which skill levels should be targeted? As you check the worksheets, class manager uses the results as assessment data to help you target learning activities to the individual needs of the students. The program makes determinations about whether a student is competent at a skill level, or needs instruction, or practice, based on the criteria set in Preferences for competence and frustration. See "Defining Criteria for Data Analysis". Basically, this criterion requires that a percentage of problems be solved correctly at a skill level before recommending that a student advance to the next, more difficult, skill level. How can I specify what rules the program should use for making recommendations? By recording the data about student activities, the manager helps make decisions about the appropriate target skills for students. These decisions are based on criteria set in Preferences. You can change the criteria from the default program settings. See Defining Criteria for Data Analysis.
