Count Money provides three activities that facilitate learning to identify coins and count money.

  • Identify Coins asks the learner to choose a specified coin from a field of coins.
  • Count Coins asks the learner to select appropriate coins from a field of coins that add up to a specified amount of money (less than $1.00).
  • Count Money asks the learner to select appropriate bills and coins that add up to a specified amount of money (less than $100.00).

The advantages of using the Count Money program are:

  • Students can learn to count money without actually having money present. This is particularly useful when it is inconvenient to have money available, or if students have difficulty manipulating coins and bills.
  • Directions and feedback are given in both written and spoken forms.
  • Problems can be repeated as often as desired.
  • The ongoing total amount of money can be shown on the screen to help students learn summation of money, or hidden to encourage mental arithmetic.
  • Scores can be maintained for testing and progress tracking.
  • Students can work independently, or teachers can use the program as a tool to complement money identification and counting activities
