Decimal Worksheet Generator makes problems at ten different skill levels in each operation. This provides students with systematic, successful progress since each level is just slightly more difficult than the previous level. If students have difficulty with most of the problems at a given level, they should try working on earlier levels. If students can successfully complete all problems at a level, they should proceed to the next level. Start by identifying the highest skill level at which the student is successful. Use a Quick Diagnostic Test and identify the highest level at which the student answers problems correctly, or look at the skill level definitions and choose a skill level that describes skills you think the student has. Make a Quick Worksheet at the identified skill level. If the student correctly solves the percentage of problems you define as passing (for example, 80%) pick the next higher skill level. The level at which the student does not solve an acceptable number of problems is the level at which practice should begin. Make a worksheet with problems at the identified skill level. Make a Solution page with all the steps in the solution showing. Show the student how to solve the problems and use the solutions to demonstrate all the steps. Have students complete worksheets and compare their solutions to practice solving problems. When students complete most of the problems presented at a given level, move up a level. To see the skill level definitions, choose Skills from the menu bar, then choose an operation. For each level, the skill definition is displayed. To see example problems for each skill level choose Problems from the View menu. To see examples with stepped-out solutions choose Solutions from the View menu. Return to the Table of Contents |
