Use Make Change to Practice Skills that are necessary for counting money and making change.
Use Math Skill Builders Make Change instead of real money to zero in on specific skills necessary for learning to count money and make change. Look at the objectives stated at the beginning of the section Use Make Change as a Teaching Tool. If a cashier is having difficulty in any of these areas, proceed to the activities describing how to use the program to practice the skills.

Use Make Change to Train Employees
If an employee is unfamiliar with handling money transactions, Make Change is the perfect tool for training. Use the activities as if the program were a simulated cash drawer. Start by setting the mode to Count Change, and choose the beginning level (set these options at the New Cashier Window). As the Cashier improves skills, progress to the intermediate and advanced levels of Count Change. When the cashier is competent at all levels of Count Change, select the Make Change mode. Progress from the beginning level to intermediate and then to advanced. Once the cashier has achieved the highest level in the Make Change mode, training should proceed to the real cash situation. If Cashiers need to be faster or more accurate, refer to Make a Specified Number of Correct Transactions in a Set Amount of Time for more suggestions.

Use Make Change to Test Employees
Since Make Change provides a cashier's report at the "end of a shift", it is easy to determine how fast and how accurately a cashier can handle cash transactions. If a cashier should be completely competent at handling cash transactions, set Make Change to the Make Change mode and choose the advanced level. Assign the cashier to conduct a certain number of transactions. Save and print the cashier's report from the end of the shift to determine if a sufficient number of transactions was completed in a short enough time to meet your criteria.
