Count Change

Choose the Count Change mode of Make Change Level in program options at the New Cashier Sign In window. The amount of change to give the customer is always shown. The cashier just has to count out the amount. Start with the beginning level (Choose the Beginning Level in program options at the New Cashier Sign In window. The total amount of money on the customer area is shown. Take the customerÕs money and put it on the holding tray. Look at the amount shown in the box marked "change". Put this amount of money in the customer area. Count out the correct bills and coins to total the change amount.

When you know the amount of change to give, you can 'count change', just like you normally count money.

How to count change:

Start with the largest denominations and work toward the smallest denominations.
For example, if the change due is $7.28:

Give:

Say:

Five dollar bill

Five

One dollar bill

Six

One dollar bill

Seven

Quarter

Twenty five

Penny

Twenty six

Penny

Twenty seven

Penny

Twenty eight

That is seven dollars and twenty eight cents.

Look at the total in the customer area to see how much change has been put there. When the amount in the customer area matches the amount of change to give, click "Check Transaction" to make sure the correct amount of change is given.

When the cashier is successful at the beginning level, progress to the intermediate level (set options) and count out change without the total showing in the customer area.

To count out specified amounts of change:
Choose Count Change at the beginning of the program. (See How to Set Options to choose beginning, intermediate and advanced levels).
To count change up to $10, choose the beginning level of Count Change
To count change up to $50.00, choose the intermediate level of Count Change
To count change up to $100.00, choose the advanced level of Count Change

When the cashier is competent at counting change, present additional challenges. The cashier should try to use different combinations of coins and bills to equal the same amount of money. In most cases, cashiers should be able to make change using as few coins as possible.
