With Talking Arithmetic Tutor students can watch the steps while the tutor solves a problem, and learn how to solve problems by showing all the steps.

Learn the Steps from the Tutor.
The tutor shows all the steps to solving problems. Students can watch demonstrations of problem solving. Students can choose a speed for the demonstration and then Start the tutor like a movie. They can choose Single Step and watch each step appear one at a time. Once students have had all the steps explained at a given level, they are ready to try to solve the problems on their own.

Solve Problems Using All the Steps.
Try these activities to have students practice solving problems with all the steps:

  • Single step through a demonstration. Students can try to tell what each step will be before the tutor puts it on the screen.
  • Copy the problem that the tutor is showing. As the tutor shows each step, rewrite the steps on paper. Practice lining up numbers correctly in the solution.
  • Watch a problem being solved. Try to solve it with pencil and paper without looking at the tutor's work. Show all the steps. Watch the tutor solve the same problem again and compare each step. Make sure all the student's steps match the tutor's.
  • Watch the tutor solve problems. Copy the problems onto paper. Solve the problems away from the computer. Set the problem mode to manual and enter each problem. Watch the tutor solve each problem and compare the tutor's complete solution with the student's solution.
