Learners may have different preferences for how to enter information at a computer. Learners may also need practice writing answers to problems different ways. To meet these individual needs, Math Skill Builders provides flexibility in how users put numbers in answers. Learners can:

  • Type Numbers, or Choose Numbers on the Screen
  • For some users it is easier to type numbers at the keyboard. For others, it is easier to use a mouse to move a pointer on the screen to choose numbers. In both Diagnosis and Practice learners can choose to put numbers in the answer either way. For a more detailed description, see How to Put Numbers in Answers. Also, refer to how to choose guided or not guided solutions in Guide Student's Solution.

  • Work Problems Right to Left, or Left to Right
  • Usually the learner will answer problems in Diagnosis and Practice just as they would using pencil and paper. That is, by working right to left in addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and left to right in the answer in division. If the learner wants to enter the answer from left to right (or right to left), deselect both Guide Student's Solution and Show Work in Solution. In Check Assignment the answers are always typed left to right.
