To use the Non-Guided Solution make sure that Guide Student's Solution is not selected in Preferences . When you answer a problem, in Diagnosis and Practice you can put a number anywhere in the solution. There is no prompt to show you where to put numbers.

Putting numbers in the non-guided solution

You can pick and put numbers in the answer two ways:

  • Type a number at the keyboard. The pointer changes from an arrow to the number you pick.
  • Use the number bar on the left side of the screen. Move the pointer over a number on the number bar. Click the number you 'pick' for the answer. The pointer changes from an arrow to that number.

Once the pointer shows the number you want, move the number to the right location in the answer. Click to "put" the number in place.

Erasing or deleting numbers in the non-guided solution

Press the Right Arrow key, or Delete, or click the arrow icon below the nine on the number bar at the left of the screen. The pointer changes from an arrow to an eraser. Then move the eraser over the number you want deleted. Click to make the number under the eraser disappear.

Carrying numbers in the non-guided solution

Pick a number, then put the number where you want to 'carry' it. Click to put the number in place.

Borrowing numbers in subtraction in the non-guided solution

Pick the slash (/) on the number bar or at the keyboard, then click the number from which you want to borrow. The line appears on the number, and the number changes, to show borrowing.

Showing a remainder in division in the non-guided solution

Click the 'R' on the number bar on the left of the screen, or type'R' or 'r'. Put the pointer in the answer where you want to show the remainder, and click to put the 'R' in place.
