Some students may have difficulty taking tests. They may know number facts and understand how to do problems, but not demonstrate their competency when taking tests. Sometimes students have difficulty taking tests because they are timed. Some students may not believe they can do arithmetic, because they have failed taking tests. Math Skill Builders can be useful for these students because:
Students can progress through skill levels by doing well in Practice. They do not need to take tests. Students can solve problems at their own pace. They can do as many problems as they like. They can take as much time as needed to do problems in Practice and Assignment. They get instant response about the correctness of their solutions.
Use Diagnosis for both pre-testing and post-testing. Diagnosis determines the student's entry level skill. Students should repeat Diagnosis regularly for testing in the skills they are learning, and to ascertain that they can continue to get higher test scores at each skill level. Students can try the challenge of completing Diagnosis in a set amount of time, and trying to complete testing in continually reduced time. Use Practice to simulate timed test taking. In Preferences, set the time allowed for Practice. Students must try to complete the specified number of problems within the time limits. See Practice in Preferences . Use Assignment to practice test-taking using pencil and paper. Set the number of problems for the Assignment in Preferences. Students should try to solve all the problems, with or without time constraints. Check the answers with Check Assignment. |
