Learners have the option of trying to answer a problem correctly with more than one try in Practice. To have this option, select Allow Retries in Preferences. If a learner gets an answer wrong in Practice, the program asks if the learner wants to try again. The learner can repeat the same problem, and try to get the answer correct, as many times as allowed in Number of Retries.

The program determines promotion based on the percentage of problems answered correctly on the first try. If a problem is correct after retrying, it counts in the percentage correct in the Reports, but that score does not qualify for promotion. Therefore, it would be possible that the score is 100% at a level, but the program did not promote the learner. If you want to have retries count toward promotion, select Credit Retries in Preferences. If the learner progresses through the program with Allow Retries and Credit Retries, then the level placement is not really as accurate as if the learner had been getting promoted based on getting problems correct the first time. In that case, the learner should repeat Diagnosis occasionally to get an accurate level placement. The learner should also try to achieve success answering problems correctly on the first try.
